About True Heading

What is True Heading?

True Heading is a family homeschool planner. It schedules any curriculum across your school year, tracks each child's daily work and progress, and builds report cards and transcripts. It runs in your browser and installs to your phone like an app.

Who is True Heading for?

Homeschooling families of any size and method — one child or many; classical, Charlotte Mason, unit-study, or boxed curriculum; and hybrid families who also attend a co-op or part-time class.

Do I need to install anything to use True Heading?

No. True Heading runs in any modern browser. For the best experience, add it to your home screen so it opens like an app and can send reminders.

How much does True Heading cost?

True Heading is in early access by invitation while we refine it with founding families. Visit trueheading.app to request access.

Getting started

How do I set up my homeschool year in True Heading?

When you first sign in, a short setup walks you through it: name your family, add your children, set your school year's start and end dates, choose your school days, pick or rename your subjects, and turn on any optional extras per child. It takes a few minutes.

Can I rename the default subjects to match my curriculum?

Yes. Every family starts with standard subjects (Bible, Math, Language Arts, Science, History, and Other). Open Subjects and tap Rename on any of them — for example, rename Math to CTC Math. Work already attached to a subject stays with it.

Why don't I see chores, money, or Morning Time for my child?

Those are optional and set per child. Turn them on in Settings, or during setup, for each child who should have them.

Signing in

How do I sign in as a parent?

You sign in with your email — we send a one-time link, so there's no password to remember. Open the link on the same device and you're in.

How do my children sign in? Do they need an email address?

No email needed for kids. Each child gets a short handle and a passcode you set, and they only ever see their own work. For young children, print a login card with a QR code they scan to sign in without typing.

Can one child see another child's work?

No. Each child only ever sees their own view.

Lessons & curriculum

How do I add my curriculum or lessons?

Several ways: snap a photo or PDF of a weekly grid or a subject list and True Heading reads it; type a list by hand; use Plan a course to pace a whole course across the year; or use Einstein to find a published curriculum's lesson list online. You always preview before anything is scheduled.

What is Einstein in True Heading?

Einstein is the built-in research assistant. Give it a curriculum's name, its website if you have it, and the grade, and it searches the web for the official lesson list and drafts it for you to review and schedule. It takes a minute or two and is best for published curricula you don't want to type out.

Einstein picked the wrong subject. How do I fix it?

Set the Subject dropdown at the top of the preview before you tap Schedule it. You can change it there.

Can I undo an import?

Yes. On the lessons page, open Recent and remove any import in one step. You can also remove a subject's lessons from Manage scheduled lessons, with the option to keep finished work.

Scheduling & calendar

I changed my dates or days off. How do I reschedule my lessons?

Open Manage scheduled lessons, choose the subject, and tap Re-pace. You can catch up from today, set a daily rate to get ahead, double up on one day, or re-spread to finish by a date. Finished work is never moved.

How do I switch curriculum mid-year?

In Manage scheduled lessons, remove the old subject (you can keep finished work for your records), then load the new one.

How do I take a week off or mark holidays?

Mark those days on the Calendar. Holidays, breaks, and sick or off days cancel school, so no work is scheduled on them and existing work shifts around them. Field trips and events show on the calendar but don't cancel school.

Does True Heading count school days or instructional hours?

Yes. A school-day counter tracks your days as you go, and a reading and hours log totals instructional time — helpful for state record-keeping.

Grades & records

Can True Heading make a report card or transcript?

Yes. Enter grades and True Heading builds a printable report card. For high school, add courses with credits and grades to produce a transcript you can print.

How does reviewing my child's work happen?

For work you want to check, True Heading holds the star until you approve it. Completed work shows in your review queue, where you approve it or send it back with a note.

Faith & motivation

Where do the memory verses come from, and can I use my own?

The Faith section rotates a new wisdom verse each week — twelve a term, then a review week — with a short daily encouragement. If your own curriculum has a verse for the week, you can set it yourself for that week, and switch back to the rotating verse any time.

What are stars and rewards?

Children earn stars for finishing work and memorizing verses. You can set up rewards with star costs that children redeem themselves. Chores, side jobs, and pocket money are also available as optional, per-child features.

Can I use True Heading for a co-op or hybrid school schedule?

Yes. Set which days are home days and which are class days for each child and name the class. On class days the child sees a pack list and what to turn in instead of a home lesson list, and imports skip class days automatically.

Data, privacy & help

Is my family's data private, and can I export it?

Your data is stored in your account and visible only to you. You can export your entire family to a file any time as a backup, and permanently delete your account and its data whenever you choose.

Why is the app sometimes slow?

The first action after the app has been idle can be slow as it wakes up, and live web research with Einstein takes a minute or two by design. Everyday actions like checking off work are quick. If one screen is consistently slow, let us know which one.

Something didn't save or I saw an error. What should I do?

Check your internet connection and try again. If it persists, note what you tapped and reach us from the app's menu — and remember you can export your data any time for safekeeping.
